Pass: Writing is fairly clear and organized with sound sentence/paragraph construction, but thoughts may be expressed in a somewhat logical manner.
Fail: Writing is unclear, disorganized, and may lack proper formatting or completeness in cover sheet, introduction, conclusion, and reference list.

Assessment 3B: Individual Written Report (35%)

Word Count: 1500-1800 words

Students are required to build on their key findings from their group presentation by writing an individual report for their chosen client group.

Using your chosen client group, you are required to select one relevant agency that works with that client group and write a written report on the following requirements:

Outline an evidence-based model that is used by the selected agency

Outline the presenting issues by the chosen client group who would be eligible for the service/s provided by the agency

Evaluate the agency's AOD programs and services available to the chosen client group, including applicable interagency case management processes, based on the chosen model

You must use APA 7 referencing.

Your critical evaluation should include at least 5 (scholarly) journal articles or books.

The format of your assessment is 'report' style.

Assessment 3A: Group Recorded Presentation (20%)

Working in groups of 3-4, students are required to complete an oral presentation examining the key issues relating to AOD work with one of the following groups:

AOD Mental Health and Young People
AOD Mental Health and Homelessness
AOD and Mental Health and Indigenous Australians
The presentation will cover:

PPT
The current context of AOD issues with the chosen client group
A discussion of dual diagnosis as it relates to the chosen group
Evaluation of current services and prevention program/s focused on addressing relevant issues impacting on the group
Professional and ethical practice in direct work with the chosen client group
Evaluation of their group's processes and member contribution/collaboration to complete the task

Students undertaking group assessments will be assessed on their capacity to work effectively in a group. The main criteria include:

Assessment 5: Individual Written Essay (40%)

his assessment is designed to build on the knowledge and learnings you have gained from previous assessments. For this task, students are required to submit a written essay responding to one of the following questions: What are some strategies and approaches a worker could use to improve relationships in a family characterized by multiple and complex needs to prevent a young person from requiring placement in out-of-home care? What are some strategies and approaches a worker could use to support a young person who is involved in criminal activities and is at risk of becoming more involved in the Youth Justice system? What are some strategies and approaches a worker could use to increase the safety of a young person who is at risk of sexual exploitation and abuse? What are some strategies and approaches a worker could use to support a young person living in the child protection out-of-home care system? Note: This assessment is NOT a response to the case study you responded to in the previous assessment. For this assessment, students are required to write an essay providing a general/broad response to one of the above questions. Your essay should include at least 12 (scholarly) journal articles read, in addition to any textbook references. Name of Organisation: Provide the name of the peak organisation you have selected.
Main Focus: Briefly describe the primary focus and mission of the organisation.
Why It Is a Peak Organisation: Explain why this organisation qualifies as a peak organisation based on the definition provided in the lecture. This may include its role in representing the sector, influencing policy, and its expertise.
Current Campaign: Describe one campaign the organisation is currently working on within your policy area. Highlight the goals of the campaign and its significance.

Assessment: Advocacy Report

Word Count: 1800-2000 words

Weight: 35%

Task Description:

Imagine you are working for a non-government organization in a front-line case work position. After several months of discussions with your fellow workers about extending your practice to policy advocacy, you approach a manager who agrees to provide a 6-week full-time project funded by philanthropic funds. Your task is to develop an advocacy approach for the agency to contribute to policy change in one policy area. Your fellow workers have agreed to support you in researching and preparing a report for the agency.

Instructions:

Select a Policy Area: Choose a policy area that you have analyzed during this subject.

Report Content:

Overview of Relevant Theories of Policy Change: Provide a summary of theories that could guide your advocacy work.
Scan of Stakeholders: Conduct a brief scan of relevant government departments, non-government organizations, research organizations, and peak bodies involved in the policy area. Outline the policy changes they are working on.
Policy Aspect for Change: Identify and justify an aspect of the policy that you believe is worth changing.
Plan for Policy Change: Develop a plan for policy change that includes:
Key stakeholders and sectors to collaborate with
Proposed campaign strategies, actions, and tactics suitable for your agency and the policy change
Target groups, individuals, public officials, or organizations for your advocacy efforts
Formatting:

Your report should be formatted with headings and include an executive summary.

Working in groups of 3, you will prepare a video presentation about one of six given case studies that feature an ethical dilemma for a community service worker in a professional context. The case study will require you to:

Outline the facts of the case
Explain the relevant ethical issues relating to the case (e.g., multiple and dual roles, boundaries, duty of care, and mandatory reporting requirements)
Demonstrate a clear ethical decision-making process
Summarize the outcomes or possible outcomes of the case
PART 2A - Video Presentation (15%)

Include information based on credible sources and appropriate referencing (APA 7 referencing)

CASE STUDY

Case Study One:

You work as a case worker in a drop-in women's centre. Your client Jenny (aged 28) has been using the service to access food and other welfare services. You are aware that Jenny is married and has a 6-year-old son. Over the last few weeks, you have noticed that Jenny has become increasingly quiet while accessing services. One day, you notice that Jenny has brought her son to the women's centre. When you sit and try to talk to Jenny, you notice that she does not introduce her son to you. He appears to be quiet, withdrawn, and does not make any eye contact with you. You also notice several severe bruises on her son's arms and legs, which Jenny says is due to rough play with other children in school. Jenny discloses that they are in financial difficulty at the moment but hope that situation will change when her husband finds a job soon. You also become aware that her husband lost his job due to significant drug use. What should you do?

Assessment 3: Reflective Essay (20%

Word Count: 1000-1200 words

Students are required to write a reflective essay on discussions, learning, group processes, and activities in class and group tutorials.

Students are encouraged to take weekly notes to assist them in choosing what they would like to reflect on from classroom discussions and activities. You can focus on 1-2 reflection topics of your choice as long as it is relevant to the unit content and online activities. Link your learning to your lived experience in working and/or engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, particularly here in Australia.

You must use APA 7 referencing. Your reflective essay should include at least 8 (scholarly) journal articles that you have read, in addition to any textbook references. The format of your essay will be discussed in greater detail during tutorials.

Working in groups of 2-3, you are required to formulate a diversity and inclusion plan for a non-government organisation. You must include the following in outlining your framework/strategy:

Introduction
A background that develops a business case as to why the organisation should invest in diversity and inclusion.
Identify key groups you have selected to focus on within the Australian context and how this group is currently represented or not represented in your chosen organization.
Identify relevant barriers to employment and inclusion for your chosen group(s).
Provide an overview of strategies to overcome the barriers.
Identify key objectives, responsibilities, timelines, and resources required to implement the plan.
Complete the group process report to be submitted alongside the report. This accompanying document requires you to evaluate your group processes and member contribution. A template will be provided during tutorials.
Where applicable, you are required to cite and reference all sources that you have used in your research.
